Dansking the night away.

I own 12 placesettings of Caribe dinnerware. I also own many serving
pieces. Since I received my dishes (we registered for them) many have
chipped and other seemed to have developed almost a rust stain on the
bottom of each dish. Also, the dishes indicate that they are microwave
safe, but I have disagree. They get very hot in the microwave, and are
not safe to touch after microwaving.

I love my dishes, but they are only 2 1/2 years old and already becoming
unsafe and ugly. My husband and I are very careful with the dishes, but
it seems as if they are impossible to keep in one piece.

Is there anything I can do?

The Caribe dinnerware is earthenware and chipping can occur with this
product. It is not a manufacturing defect. The Caribe dinnerware is
discontinued and if you need replacements, please contact
www.replacements.com or ebay. Here are a few suggestions on care and
use of earthenware.

To ensure proper care of your Dansk earthenware, we recommend you follow
these easy care instructions:

Use of rubber or wooden utensils is recommended for glazed earthenware
baking dishes.

Hand washing is recommended for large serving items.

Do not immerse glazed earthenware in water while the dish is still hot.

Do not allow your earthenware to soak in water. To prevent chipping wait
until dinnerware is cool before removing from dishwasher. Lift your
plates from the storage shelf and do not drag across the plate.

Do not permit children to handle product that has been heated in the
microwave.

Heating foods and/or beverages in the microwave may cause this product
to become hot.

To retain the beauty and functionality of microwave-safe products, never
place them empty in a microwave oven, and avoid overheating
food/liquids. Do not use greasy foods such as bacon, since these foods
can overheat and cause breakage.

Always use a pot holder or oven mitt when handling any product heated in
a microwave oven.

Thank you for your email. I strongly disagree that the product is not defective. Our dishes began chipping almost immediately after we got them. If you read the list of warnings associated with this product that you just sent me, it is clear that there are several things wrong with these dishes.

I do not need replacements. Especially not replacements paid for out of my own pocket.


I want Dansk to refund the purchase price for these dishes.

So, I just talked to good ole Marge, and she said that I don't have to return my dishes to Dansk, but they are going to give me 12 new placesettings of anything on their website.

The problem is that I don't really like any of the dishes on there. Here is what my old dishes look like:

Yes, I realize that I should be studying for the bar right now. You are right. I should. But rather, I am sitting here watching HGTV, drinking Refresh Tazo, and trying to figure out how to decorate our guest bedroom in some sort of Parisian and Asian shabby chic style in pink, white, and green. I am just so sick of getting up every morning, sitting on the couch, reading/testing/stressing for 10 -14 hours a day and then doing it all over again.

Artsy Fartsy is sick and tired of being sick and tired of bar studying. Really, could working at Pottery Barn for the rest of my life be so bad?

Oooh, I love Coconut Grove as my entire house is decorated in mid-century modern (50's kitsch) and I love the turquoise stuff from that era. Align was also kinda cool. Bistro Cafe (is it a cafe or a bistro?) might go with your decor and add color since you had color before and Studio is pretty sleek. That being said, I think half of those were out of stock. Jerks.

AFS - i'd say, not knowing your decor, that simpler might work - i like precision too - sometimes it's more fun to let your food do the talking - the color, etc.

I have to show you the tomatoes i'm growing in the back deck - they are Brandywine heirloom tomatoes, beautiful color - deep red purple with streaks - kinda nifty.

How are you doing now that Bar is done with?

I cannot believe a company is replacing your dishes after two and a half years of ownership with no idea of how you've handled them throughout your ownership period.

I'm surprised the company isn't bankrupt.

I'm simply astounded. What a horrible business practice.
